The Unthinkable Happening - Twice

On September 24, 2015, the annual Georgia Right to Life (GRTL) REACH benefit will be held at the Cobb Galleria Centre from 7:00 to 9:00pm. REACH stands for Raising Educational Awareness and Changing Hearts. The annual dinner is the largest single fundraising event each year for the GRTL Educational Trust Fund, which funds the outreach programs of the organization.

This year’s event will feature keynote speaker Shauna Prewitt, J.D. from Chicago. Ms. Prewitt will share the dramatic story of her assault while a college student, at age 21 in Missouri, her decision to bear and keep her child, and subsequent shock to discover that her assailant was seeking custody of her baby. She was even more astonished to discover that few legal protections exist for the women who become mothers through rape.

Shauna made a commitment to do what she could to change the custody laws around the nation. In August 2006, she enrolled in Georgetown Law School and began the tedious and often frustrating task of examining the custody rights of men who father through rape. Astonished to learn that only a handful of states had legal protections in place that restrict the parental rights of men who father through rape, Shauna set out to answer the question, “Why?” The results of Shauna’s years-long analysis culminated in the first - and only - scholarly piece examining the legal protections afforded to women who mother through rape. She will bring an update on her progress in this effort.

The Cobb Galleria Centre, situated near the intersection of I-285 and Hwy 41 in Cobb County, is the perfect venue for such an event. Just off the expressway, it is spacious, beautifully appointed, staffed with professionals, with plenty of free parking besides.  The dinners served are prepared under supervision by their executive chef, Nick Wallace, who oversees the preparation of a vast selection of delicious salads, entrees and desserts - all made from scratch.

The annual REACH benefit dinner draws up to 500 attendees, and this year will be emceed by Public Service Commissioner Tim Echols. Please make plans to join us at this important and momentous event.
