LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – Georgia Representative Martin Scott’s Let Them Live Bus Tour wrapped up last week in Macon. During the 11 day tour Martin spoke to over 2,000 people with stops in 17 cities including Ft. Oglethorpe, Cedartown, Alpharetta, Lawrenceville, Norcross, Conyers, Augusta, Savannah, St. Simon’s Island, Waycross, Valdosta and Macon. Rep. Scott presented the case for life to more than 30 audiences in churches, meeting halls, courthouses, and restaurants, and also did TV and radio interviews throughout the tour. The bus tour was a joint effort between Georgia Right to Life, Representative Martin Scott and Senator Ralph Hudgen.
Before the tour began Rep. Scott had already spoken to over 1,000 activists about the Human Life Amendment during May, June and July. “Rep. Martin Scott’s passion and commitment to the preservation of life within the womb is an inspiration for the pro-life community to redouble our efforts to restore full legal protection for all human life, from its earliest stages to its last moments,” said Caryl Swift, president of Georgia Right to Life.
With the introduction of HR 536, The Human Life Amendment (HLA), Rep. Martin Scott has propelled Georgia to the forefront of the battle to restore the sanctity of innocent human life. The Human Life Amendment will establish, as a matter of Constitutional principle, the Paramount Right to Life, and it will clarify that the “…word 'person' applies to all human beings, irrespective of age, race, gender, health, function, or condition of dependency, including unborn children at every state of their biological development, including fertilization.
The Human Life Amendment has already been co-signed by 39 Georgia legislators from both political parties. Rep. Scott said, “While the personhood of all human being is not a partisan matter, it is important to point out that the platform of the Republican Party, since 1984, has maintained a continual affirmation of this principle: “We therefore reaffirm our support for a human life amendment to the Constitution, and we endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to unborn children” (GOP Platform, 1984). |
